Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage officials said the vessels are scheduled to arrive in Honolulu on June 17 after the last stop in Tahiti, a French Polynesian island, about 2,000 miles (3218.54 kilometers) away from Honolulu, KBMG-TV reported. Celebrations are planned for the vessels arrival.
The event in Tahiti, where the voyaging canoe will arrive in the next days, will take place Friday. Another celebration event is set for next week in Tapu Tapu Atea.
The voyaging canoe Hokulea and her sister ship Hikianalia left Honolulu nearly three years ago. Their first stop after leaving home was Tahiti so officials said it is considered a second home for the vessels. The trip from Tahiti to Honolulu could take from two to three weeks.
